Camp stories.......

Hey,
Sorry I didn't get around to writing yesterday, I was catching up on my sleep, and then I had to go down to the beach to see my brother's sandcastle championship. It's an architect's thing. So here I am, Sunday afternoon, nothing to do until 5:30, so I guess I'll start my stories from camp. I won't be able to write all of them today, but I'll at least try to get them started.

Monday we had to be at the church at 7:30, but of course we didn't leave until 8:30 or 9:00. Josh wouldn't put the stupid video camera down all morning! Gosh. Let's see....if we left at 8:30 or 9 and got there at like 12:30 for lunch then that would be like a.......3 1/2 or 4 hour bus ride! Oh well, it was fun. I sat by Jaclyn on the way there. Ah, fun times! After we got registered we just like chilled at our dorms and stuff for a while. I have horrible memory, cuz I can't remember what we did for orientation......oh well. We went to dinner at like 5:15, the cafeteria food was....uh.....interesting. It wasn't that bad. After that at 6:15 we went to meet our family groups for bible study. My family group was me, this other girl from UBC(her name was Lauren,) four girls from Mississippi and two guys from FBC Deer Park. Ah, fun. My family was loud, but they did listen, unlike my group last year. At 7:45 we went to corporate worship. Our worship leader was Todd Agnew and our speaker was David Nasser. Nasser was AWESOME! The first night we talked about John 1 and about how the beginning of God actually never began.....for those of you who were there, you know that it was rather confusing. At night we looked at some of the 7 "I AM's" that Jesus said in John. Ah, Late Nite! Man, you've never seen random if you've never seen late nite. They had the "Don't care Dave" videos(I know Sterling enjoyed those! haha), they had the "Unfailing ______" videos. The first night it was called the "Unfailing Toaster," the second night was "Unfailing Lightbulb," the third night was "Unfailing iPod." On the videos there was this guy dressed in a suit and top hat and there was the item on a table. He would turn it on, then turn it off, the turn it on, then turn it off, then he would say "Everybody dance!" And like 5 people would come out on the video dressed as the object and they would dance for like 5 minutes. It makes me laugh just thinking about it. haha. Then we had church group time, that was awesome. On Monday night we just prayed about the coming week and the adults and interns and leaders were up there and they were there to pray for us. That was cool. After church group time we went to our dorms and crashed.

Tuesday. We(me and Kathleen Doeling) woke up at 6:15 to get ready for the coming day. At like 7:00 we left with Elliott, Jaclyn, Jill and Aimee to go to breakfast at the cafeteria across campus. After breakfast we showed up(on time!) at Church Quiet Time at 8:15. QT was just a way to commit the day to God and open your heart to his voice for the day. At 9:00 we headed over to Celebration with our church group. At celebration every morning Nasser talked about people who weren't famous while they were alive, but after they died they became important people in Christian history. Tuesday morning we talked about Oswalt Chambers. Todd Agnew played some great music.......if you were at camp and you are reading this all I would have to say was "do do do do do do do do do do do...." and you would know what I was talking about. btw, just in case you don't know what I'm saying by that, that was how Todd and his band started the song "Rain Down." After Celebration we went to Family Group Bible Study. On Tuesday we talked about Hosea 3:1-5, and how no matter how many bad things we've done, how long we've turned our back on God he will always take us back. Also, something random.....look up Hosea 3:1 and read the last three words, you'll laugh, at least our family group did. It has to be in the NIV though, or else it's not the same. When we were done with family group for the morning we went to lunch and chilled until time for Recreation at 1:15, except that me, Jaclyn, Jill and Aimee decided to go over there early, but it turns out we felt really stupid, cuz we were on the wrong side of the coliseum. ha. Recreation on Monday was water day for us(the Blue squad.) Now that was FUN! By the end of Rec we were SOAKED! At least this year water day was on Monday and there was time for our clothes to dry. I can't remember what we did for free time......I think we just chilled at our dorms and got ready for Family Group Prayer Time and worship. After free time we went to dinner, then we went to Family Group Prayer Time. That was really cool, cuz this year there were people in my group that actually wanted to pray! We headed over with our family group to Worship at the Coliseum. Todd Agnew sang.......I'm not a big fan of his, he's kind-of judgmental of everyone. Nasser talked about Jesus as the Bread of Life, John 6:48. He told a story about a youth who wanted to go to a dangerous mission trip for a whole summer and his youth minister got a brochure about the House of the Dying in Calcutta, India. Population 13,000,000. 11,000,000 of those 13 million are homeless. 70% of the homeless suffer from a form of Tuberculosis. He told one story about how he and another new guy working at the House of the Dying volunteered to take out the trash there, because no one else wanted to do it. The trash included all the leftover food that the diseased people ate, all the used syringes and other infected stuff. These two kids took out the trash and all the homeless people from the city came there and were waiting for the trash, so they could have some food. They didn't care if diseased people had eaten it, it was food. That story really touched me, because I have seen poor. Not that poor, but I just got back from Oaxaca, Mexico and I've been to Uganda before. I don't remember much else about that night, because I was on the verge of tears then. Well, I think that's all I can write about today. Wow....that was a lot of stuff! And that was only Monday and Tuesday. I'll write about Wednesday, Thursday and Friday later, because I don't think I can stand to sit here any longer! See ya later! You(yes, I'm talking to you) better come to the BBQ and Ball game tonight at 6:30 on the ball field at UBC! It's gonna be fun. Later.
Jenna
